Report: Bengals’ Christian Westerman intends to retire

It seems the Cincinnati Bengals lost another left guard to retirement this offseason.

According to Dave Lapham (h/t Tyler Dragon of the Cincinnati Enquirer), Christian Westerman is considering retiring from football. The veteran guard wasn’t expected to play Thursday night in Washington for what was described as personal reasons.

Friday, this idea gained more steam when the Bengals put him on the left squad list and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported he will retire.

It was an odd absence before the report because Westerman is involved in the battle to start at left guard. If he decides to hang up the cleats, he’d join Clint Boling, who retired earlier due to medical reasons. He’d also join tackle Kent Perkins, who was just waived because he informed the team he wanted to retire.

If Westerman is out, that leaves John Jerry and rookie Michael Jordan fighting for the starting gig at left guard.
