Report: Bengals bring back LB Preston Brown

The Cincinnati Bengals aren’t letting linebacker Preston Brown hit free agency before the market officially opens Wednesday.

According to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, the Bengals got Brown wrapped up on a new deal Tuesday evening.

Brown joined the Bengals last offseason on a one-year deal after four seasons with the Buffalo Bills after entering the league via the third round. Known for hardly missing a snap in college and in the pros, Brown suffered an early injury upon joining the Bengals and wound up only playing in seven games.

As a two-down thumper in the middle, Brown is a nice asset for the Bengals to have moving forward, even if they don’t keep him as a starter. He’s only 26, a local product and helps reinforce the team’s weakest position.

Brown doesn’t solve a major problem for the Bengals or change the draft strategy, but getting him back under contract is a good move at a minimum for depth purposes.
