Report: Bengals attempted to claim former Seahawks LB Austin Calitro

The Cincinnati Bengals continue to be active in looking at adding players through various means.

The latest in this saga was an attempt to add former Seattle Seahawks linebacker Austin Calitro.

ESPN’s Field Yates had the report: “A total of three teams tried to claim former Seahawks LB Austin Calitro off of waivers: the Jaguars, Bengals and Broncos. Jacksonville had top priority based off of its 2018 record.”

Calitro was an undrafted product out of Villanova who landed with Seattle and appeared in 16 games with five starts. He was mostly known for superb special teams play, so the Seahawks letting him go at all came as a surprise.

The Bengals would have loved to add a fifth linebacker to the active roster and instead in recent days added Hardy Nickerson to the practice squad.

This is merely the latest effort made by the Bengals to add to the roster. They worked out seven free agents this week and in addition to the two players they added on waivers over the weekend, reportedly attempted to claim running back Wendell Smallwood.
