Report: Bears talking with free agent QB Teddy Bridgewater

The Chicago Bears were believed to be one of the teams with a lot on the line in free agency in regards to the quarterback position.

With former No. 2 overall pick Mitchell Trubisky’s continued struggles, there was a belief that Chicago would bring in an experienced veteran to challenge Trubisky.

Well, according to a new report, it sounds like they could be working to bring in a new starter altogether.

According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, the Bears are currently in contract discussions with free agent quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.

Bridgewater’s current market value has been floating around $21 million per year, which would suggest that he would be brought in to be the starter over Trubisky.

Bridgewater played in just six games last season, in relief for the injured Drew Brees. In those six games, Bridgewater passed for 1,384 yards with nine touchdowns and two interceptions.

The Bears saw Bridgewater up close last season in a Week 7 contest against the Saints, where he completed 23-of-38 passes for 281 yards and two touchdowns in the Saints’ 36-25 victory.

This could mean the end of the Mitchell Trubisky era as we know it.
