Report: Bears expected to be most attractive head coaching job on the market

While the Chicago Bears haven’t parted ways with head coach Matt Nagy yet, the expectation is, barring some kind of miraculous playoff surge, Nagy will be out as head coach at season’s end.

If that’s the case, it sounds like Chicago is a hot landing spot.

According to CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones, the Bears’ future head coaching vacancy — and potential general manager job — are expected to be the most attractive jobs on the market.

With more than a month left in the regular season, the Bears job — either one of them — seems like it’ll be the best one on the market. That’s the overwhelming response I’ve gotten from sources around the league and coaches and personnel execs gear up for a new hiring/firing cycle.

While Chicago might not seem like the most attractive landing spot — especially given the team’s struggles under Nagy — rookie quarterback Justin Fields is a big reason why. A talented young quarterback on a rookie deal and a solid core of young players, including Roquan Smith and Darnell Mooney, in place is certainly appealing.

There are already a handful of names linked to the Bears, including Byron Leftwich and Brian Daboll, although we’re still some time away from the beginning of a potential head coaching search.

A new NFL rule this season allows teams to start interviewing candidates two weeks before the end of the regular season, that is if the head coach that started the season has already been fired.

Right now, the only other head coaching vacancy is the Las Vegas Raiders after Jon Gruden was relieved of his duties earlier this season. Although, there are sure to be others to follow, including the Bears.

Whether it’s general manager Ryan Pace doing the hiring, we’ll soon find out.
