Report: Austin Cutting cleared to sign with Vikings

The Vikings drafted longsnapper Austin Cutting in the seventh round knowing that there could be some complications for him to get cleared to play considering his committment to the Air Force.

Per Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press, Cutting has been cleared to play in the NFL. This comes less than a week before training camp kicks off.

Cutting will compete with Kevin McDermott for the longsnapper spot and is expected to win the job.

Teams don’t generally draft for the longsnapper position, so the fact that Rick Spielman made Cutting a draft pick probably gives him the upperhand heading into training camp.

Tomasson notes that the 250th overall pick is expected to sign a four-year, $2.59 million deal which includes a $74,756 signing bonus.
