Report: Auburn QB prospect visiting with Panthers today

The Carolina Panthers are the only team that hasn’t drafted a quarterback since 2011. They did pretty well with the last one, taking Auburn’s Cam Newton with the first overall selection. Might their next QB pick come from the same program?

According to a report by Tom Pelissero at NFL Network, Auburn QB prospect Jarrett Stidham is visiting with the team today. He has already met with the Redskins and the Giants.

Stidham can’t match Newton’s size. He’s not small for a pro QB, though. measured in at 6-foot-2 and 218 pounds at the combine with 9.125 inch hands. He’s also got plenty of arm strength.

Lance Zierlein at NFL.com likes Stidham’s mechanics and decision-making on RPO plays, which has an obvious appeal for the Panthers. He’ll need to work on his ball placement and anticipation if he’s going to be a successful passer at the next level.

In 27 games at Auburn, he completed 63.6 percent of his passes, throwing for 5,952 yards (8.1 YPA) and 36 touchdowns to go with 11 picks.

Stidham is projected to be a fourth or fifth-round pick.
