Report: Alvin Kamara managing high ankle injury, hopes to play vs. Bears

A new report from Tom Pelissero of NFL Network says that New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara is dealing with a high ankle issue after the Week 6 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Pelissero adds that Kamara is hopeful to play against the Chicago Bears in the Saints’ next game on Sunday.

The injuries have been piling up for Kamara. He hurt his ankle during practice a week ago, missing Friday’s session, and tweaked his knee in the Jaguars game. Saints coach Sean Payton downplayed the significance of Kamara’s knee injury, and this report from Pelissero suggests the ankle issue is a larger concern.

Considering the Saints’ 5-1 record and the improving production of backup Latavius Murray (who posted a season-high 79 yards from scrimmage against Jacksonville, not including a long catch-and-run for a touchdown that was nullified by penalty), it wouldn’t be a shock if Kamara sits out the next two games before the bye week. He’s too valuable to risk serious injury. But he’s a competitor, and the Saints will want to hit the Bears with their best shot. Keep an eye out for Wednesday’s injury report for news on Kamara’s status.
