Report: AJ Green to participate in Cincinnati Bengals minicamp

Former Georgia wide receiver AJ Green missed seven games last season for the Cincinnati Bengals before eventually shutting it down. He received toe surgery in December, making it two out of his last three seasons he’s appeared in no more than 10 games.

However, the toe injury is behind him, Green told Joe Danneman of Fox 19 while hosting a football camp last week. The former No. 4 overall pick was fully cleared medically ahead of camp this summer.

This week, it was reported by Geoff Hobson that Green will actually be participating in this week’s minicamp, which closes team OTAs. And he will be doing more than originally expected.

Hobson reports that Green will be doing individual drills with the receivers and quarterbacks.

Green provided an update on his recovery as well.

“I’ve run routes with Nick and I’ve caught some balls with the quarterbacks after a couple of practices,” Green said Monday. “I’ve been doing the same thing, it’s just good to get back on the field with everyone and get off the rehab field.”

“Everybody says it should be back to normal and it feels good. No setbacks. Nothing. No soreness after I run. It just feels good.”

For the duration of his career, Green has been one of the NFL’s most consistent receivers. In his eight years, he has reached 1,000 yards in all but two seasons — 964 in 2016 and 694 last year…a season in which he missed seven games.

2019 will be Green’s ninth NFL season, which will also be a contract year for the star wideout. He has made it clear many times that he wants to remain a Bengal beyond next season.

When asked about it again last week, Green stated that he does not want to leave, and would like to be able to raise both of his kids in Cincinnati.

“All I know is Cincinnati. I can’t see myself playing anywhere else or playing in a different city.”
