Report: A.J. Green undergoes minor surgery; return timetable unchanged

It turns out Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green did need surgery on his ankle — of the minor variety.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the timetable doesn’t change much despite Green undergoing a procedure:

“Bengals WR AJ Green underwent a minor ankle procedure this morning to clean it out after his injury, sources say. The timeline should remain the same and Week 1 is still possible.”

Green suffered the injury Saturday in Dayton after getting tangled up with Dre Kirkpatrick on an underthrown pass. The Bengals were hopeful it was merely a sprain until an MRI revealed ligament damage.

Initial reports suggested Green’s status for Week 1 in Seattle was in jeopardy. It appears that timetable won’t change based on this news, though his run of injury woes lately is concerning.
