Report: A.J. Green not expected to return for Bengals until after trade deadline

According to a new report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Cincinnati Bengals won’t have A.J. Green back on the field until after the Oct. 29 trade deadline.

Per the report:

Green is coming along well, but according to a source, the Bengals want to ensure a complete recovery before he returns — with the organization looking out for the player’s best interest beyond any single game.

Head coach Zac Taylor told reporters this week that Green had experienced soreness but it hadn’t impacted the return timetable. Taylor has continually stressed taking it as slow as possible, as has Green himself, who reinjured himself last year after rushing back.

The Bengals have yet to win a game, so it isn’t surprising everyone is taking it slow here. A trade-deadline return means Green will miss the trip to London for a game against the Rams in Week 8 and could return after the Week 9 bye. Green, 31, is in the final year of his contract.
