Lost in the disaster of a home opener for the Cincinnati Bengals during a Week 2 loss to the San Franicsco 49ers was a late hit on Andy Dalton early in the game.
Solomon Thomas hit Andy Dalton high and was flagged for roughing the passer. According to The Athletic’s Jay Morrison, the NFL swooped in with a $21,056 fine.
On the play in question, Nick Bosa missed a sack on Dalton but wrapped up his legs. Thomas came in and hit Dalton high, sending him backward and bouncing his helmet off the turf.
It is possible Thomas couldn’t have seen the fact Dalton was already wrapped up, but that’s an issue, as was how late he came in with what was otherwise a clean hit.
