Report: 49ers sign long snapper Kyle Nelson to four-year extension

Kyle Nelson’s suspension didn’t keep the 49ers from extending the long snapper for four years. He’ll be with the team through 2022 on a four-year extension according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

Nelson, 32, was suspended for the final four games of the 2018 season for a second violation of the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy. He still has six games left on that ban.

They signed Colin Holba to finish out last season, and it stands to reason he’ll continue filling in for the first six games of the 2019 campaign while Nelson fulfills the rest of his suspension.

Nelson was due to be an unrestricted free agent after joining the 49ers in 2014 and played every game for four-plus seasons prior to his suspension. He entered the league with the Saints in 2011, and made his debut with the Chargers in 2012. He spent 2013 in Washington before heading to San Francisco.
