Report: 49ers made offer to CB Bradley Roby

The 49ers are on the hunt for depth at cornerback, and they went searching for it in former Broncos corner Bradley Roby. They were one of multiple teams to offer a contract to the 26-year-old. He eventually agreed to a one-year deal with the Houston Texans, according to Mike Klis of 9News in Denver.

A one-year deal means the 49ers aren’t entirely out on the group of cornerbacks they have in the building. Ahkello Witherspoon and Tarvarius Moore will be the top two options to start across from Richard Sherman. Roby would’ve gone into camp needing to earn a starting role over Witherspoon and Moore.

It’s conceivable the 49ers would’ve offered him a multi-year deal if they believed he was a surefire starter in their defense.

Roby was the No. 31 overall pick in the 2014 draft out of Ohio State. He’s started 29 of his 79 career games, including all 15 a season ago in his first year as a full-time starter. He has seven career interceptions and 60 pass breakups.
