Repairs to Paisley park's pond edge 'would make big difference' as plans welcomed

Plans to repair the pond edge in Paisley’s Durrockstock Park are in the pipeline as the council considers options for improvements.

Officers are investigating the works needed, according to a report to the recent infrastructure, land and environment (ILE) policy board, with a view to carrying them out later this year.

The upgrades would complement the local authority’s significant investment in parks across Renfrewshire, with Durrockstock Park already benefiting from the arrival of brand new play equipment last summer.

SNP councillor Stephen Burns, who represents the Paisley Southwest ward, welcomed the development and said the enhancements would make a “big difference” at the beauty spot.

He told the Paisley Daily Express this week: “They are planning to repair some of the pond edge, which is needed because it’s collapsing.

“I welcome the fact that officers are working up the proposals to get this fixed. It’s an important part of the park for people and this would make a big difference.

“Obviously there’s the safety aspect of it but also the general appearance of it matters. If we get this done, it helps spruce up the area. You can get a lot of rubbish around the side of it, so hopefully it will help with that as well.

“We had the new play park open last summer, which has been great, so improvements to the pond will only add to the good feeling around the park.

“People in the community enjoy Durrockstock Park and it means a lot to them, so they want to see it kept in a good condition. We want to do everything we can to encourage people to get outside and make the most of the nice weather.”

A paper to the ILE board last month confirmed: “Works to repair the pond edge in Durrockstock Park are currently being investigated with a view to carrying out improvements later in the year.”
