WASHINGTON - Rep. Danny Davis, D-Ill., is endorsing Joe Biden for president, with campaigns looking past the Monday first-in-the-nation Iowa vote to the delegate rich states, with March primaries, including Illinois
Last week, Rep. Brad Schneider, D-Ill., also endorsed Biden, the former vice president, in the March 17 Illinois contest. Schneider is a Democratic centrist who represents an upscale north suburban district. Davis is one of the most progressive members of the House who represents a district stretching from downtown Chicago to parts of the West and South sides and western suburbs.
The Biden campaign touted its 40 total congressional endorsements and that Davis is the 17th African-American to back Biden. Illinois sends three African-Americans to Congress: Rep. Bobby Rush is backing ex-New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Rep. Robin Kelly, D-Ill., so far is remaining neutral.
David said in a statement, “This is the election of our lifetime where we must do everything in our power to defeat Donald Trump. But we must also elect a leader who can count on to deliver bold, progressive, and concrete change. That leader is Joe Biden.”
“...Under a President Biden, the possibilities are endless,” Davis said. “After we defeat Donald Trump, I look forward to working with Joe on expanding affordable health care, investing in education, tackling climate change, and so much more.”
