Celtic transfer clue dropped over Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda as Japanese FA chief details international plans

A leading figure in Japanese football has dropped a massive hint that Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda will transfer to Celtic in January.

The J League aces have been heavily linked with a move to Parkhead, with manager Ange Postecoglou keen to return to that market.

Summer signing Kyogo Furuhashi has proved a massive hit with fans and the Japanese contingent in the Premiership is expected to increase.

Hatate, Maede and Yosuke Ideguchi have all been touted for a move following the end of the J League season.

The former two have both been called up by the national team for a match with Uzbekistan on January 21 but that has been affected by new Covid restrictions.

No overseas players have been included in the squad, meaning the likes of Kyogo and Liverpool's Takumi Minamino have been left out.

And with Hatate and Maeda expected to move in January there may have to be additional changes to Hajime Moriyasu's squad.

Asked about the Celtic links Koji Sorimachi, head of the Japanese FA, said: "I have heard that there are rumours of a transfer (for those two).

"In that case, additional domestic players will be called-up."

Maeda finished as joint top-scorer in the J League last season, banging in 23 for Postecoglou's former side Yokohama F Marinos.
