Renton roadworks run over schedule as Bonhill project begins

Works on a major road have run over schedule, leading to two main routes being closed at once.

Renton Road was earmarked to close overnight for 14 nights from July 29 to allow resurfacing works to be carried out.

The closure - between 9pm and 6am - has added to the misery experienced by motorists and commuters throughout the area for months.

But instead of finishing on time, the Renton roadworks, which saw the carriageway closed between Tontine Park and Dennystoun Forge, have run over schedule.

Mobile signs have been in place at Renton Road since July, warning drivers of the closure.

Roads chiefs have blamed the delay on the weather and claimed Monday night was always part of the planned closure.

The news meant the road will remain closed tonight (Monday) and looks set to stay shut tomorrow (Tuesday), at the same time as the A813 Stirling Road is out of commission.

Residents have been up in arms over the controversial full closure of the A813 for up to six weeks, to allow for upgrading works by Scottish Power.
