Renton murderer Alexander Wilson dies in prison

A man who murdered his Renton neighbour in 2007 has died behind bars.

Alexander Wilson, 53, was jailed for life at Glasgow High Court after the attack on Thomas Taylor, 40, in the village’s Tontine Park.

Wilson had been drinking cider and taking painkillers and tranquilisers when he plunged a large kitchen knife into Mr Taylor’s chest.

The court heard at the time how Wilson had fallen out with a drug dealer who accused him of stealing £20 worth of heroin and that Mr Taylor, who was not involved in the dispute, suggested he “make himself scarce.”

After the attack, his victim staggered to the home of his mother and told her who had attacked him. He then dialled 999.

A court heard that Mr Taylor‘s heart stopped on the way to Paisley’s Royal Alexandra Hospital. Attempts to save him, including open heart massage in the hospital’s casualty department, were unsuccessful.

A statement on the Scottish Prison Service website said: “Alexander Wilson, 53, a prisoner from HMP Perth has died on 13 December 2021.

“He was convicted at Glasgow High Court in 2007. Police Scotland have been advised and the matter reported to the Procurator Fiscal. A Fatal Accident Inquiry will be held in due course.”
