Former Evening Standard golf correspondent Renton Laidlaw has died aged 82.
The news was confirmed late on Tuesday and saw a number of tributes paid to Laidlaw, who retired from the Standard in 2000 and lived near St Andrews golf course in his final years.
He reported on 58 Open Championships and 42 Masters during his career, which included 15 years as golf correspondent for the BBC.
Laidlaw also worked for a number of media outlets while he edited the R&A Golfer’s Handbook for more than a decade.
“We are deeply saddened to hear of Renton Laidlaw’s passing,” a statement from the R&A read.
“With his distinctive Scottish voice, Laidlaw was one of golf’s most respected broadcasters.”

Laidlaw had been involved in the Association of Golf Writers since 1963, serving several roles.
Open winner Paul Lawrie said on Twitter: “Very sad to hear of the passing of Renton Laidlaw a lovely man. RIP.”
