Renton dump workers gifted a year's supply of Bisto after rescuing £20k from skip

The two determined recycling centre workers who sifted through rubbish for two hours to rescue a pensioner’s life savings stashed in Bisto tins have been given a year’s supply of the gravy granules.

After reading the Lennox Herald’s exclusive story about how Kenny McAdam, 59, and Tony Scanlon, 44, saved the day last month pulling the £20,000 haul from a skip at Dalmoak dump, makers of the brand were keen to reward them.

Brand manager for Bisto, Kate Mcgrath said: “Bisto has been at the heart of family mealtimes for over 100 years and as a business we work hard to not only bring families together but whole communities as well.

"This story instantly caught our eye and we’re absolutely thrilled that the two workers committed themselves to find and return the lady’s lifetime savings.”

We were the first to tell the story – which hit national headlines and even led to the dynamic duo appearing on the BBC’s The One Show.

The huge cash bundle had been mistakenly thrown out by the woman’s son and daughter who were clearing up her kitchen.

West Dunbartonshire Council said Kenny and Tony are “fantastic ambassadors” for the local authority.
