Dublin renters are currently paying a staggering 40% more than they did in the height of the Celtic Tiger according to Daft.ie.
The latest rental report shows that the currently monthly average in the capital is a whopping €2,044.
The highest figure is in Dublin South County where renters are paying on average €2,224 a month on rent.
In Dublin City, renters are parting with €2,083 with the south of the city standing at €2,166 and the northside at €1,937.
Dublin West rent is €1,816 per month while Dublin North County is the lowest of the capital at €1,728.
Although inflation in the market is easing, rents remain a record high rising 5.2% nationwide in the year to September.
The average nationwide figure for rent stands at €1,403 per month. The average listed rent is almost €400 more than in 2008 and €660 higher than the low of 2011.
The number of properties available to rent is up 10% since last year with 3,500 homes available in Ireland.
Ronan Lyons who is the author of the report said: "The number of rental ads coming onto the market is still incredibly low but the availability has improved a bit so people are finding other options."
