Iconic snaps of Glasgow and Scotland’s past are to be held by one of the city’s universities in a project to collate 50,000 images from the late photographer Oscar Marzaroli.
His family have entrusted the snaps from the 50s, 60s, and 70s – taken as slums were being cleared and new homes and roads constructed.
Marzaroli is known for images such as the Glasgow skyline used for the cover of Deacon Blue’s Raintown album.
Now Glasgow Caledonian University has set up the Marzaroli Fund which will help preserve, catalogue and digitise the collection – making it available to everyone.
It will be available for research use, providing resources not only for academics but also the public. Now the university is trying to raise £200,000 to allow it to begin work on the images.
Italian-born Oscar moved to Scotland aged two. He died in 1988, aged 55.
Daughter Marie-Claire Marzaroli said: “The family are excited by the university’s plans to make the photos available online.”
