- Roberts was globally recognised for his nonviolent method of training and ‘join-up' technique, which used gestures and eye contact to build trust with horses.
- He developed his unique training approach after observing his father's conventional, fear-based methods and later founded Flag Is Up Farms in 1966.
- Roberts formed a close friendship with the late Queen Elizabeth II, who was an avid horsewoman, and was invited to demonstrate his methods to her stable staff in 1989.
- The Queen encouraged him to write his book, The Man Who Listens to Horses , and appointed him an Honorary Member of the Royal Victorian Order for “services to Her Majesty’s racing establishment”.
