Renfrewshire Council: Don't rush to beauty spots as lockdown eases

Residents are being urged not to undo the good work of the last nine weeks of lockdown by flocking to Renfrewshire beauty spots this weekend.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirmed on Thursday the country would move into the first phase of lockdown easing from yesterday.

It means people can now meet one other household outside, start sunbathing and relaxing in public parks, and enjoy socially distant sports like golf and tennis.

But bosses at Renfrewshire Council and Clyde Muirshiel Country Park have reminded people their car parks are remaining closed, in line with government advice.

A Renfrewshire Council spokesperson said: “We would encourage residents to continue to do all they can to protect themselves and others from coronavirus.

“It’s important that even though some of the lockdown measures have been eased, you should still maintain physical distancing at all times, wash your hands as often as possible and avoid touching your face.

“Please stay in your local communities as much as you can, avoid potentially crowded areas and only make essential trips for work, food or exercise. By continuing to follow the national guidance, we will stay safe, protect our NHS and save lives.”

Renfrewshire Council is set to resume grass cutting with priority areas tackled first while Renfrewshire Leisure has opened Barshaw Golf Course and Robertson Park bowling green.

Meanwhile, a post on the Clyde Muirshiel Country Park Facebook page confirmed the park was following government advice for people to stay in their local area for exercise or other activities.

It read: “As Clyde Muirshiel’s car parks have been closed it is the case that they will remain closed for the moment.”

Since lockdown began, the park has stayed open for people living close by to enjoy exercise like cycling, walking and running.
