Renfrewshire cops hunting vehicle thieves who struck in early hours of the morning

Cops are on the hunt for a thief caught trying car door handles in the early hours of the morning.

A resident of Lounsdale Avenue, Paisley, was alerted to the presence of a man near their car around 3.30am on Friday, March 17.

Other residents are reported to have woken up to find their car doors open.

Police in Paisley are urging people to ensure they lock their car doors and do not leave any valuable belongings within their vehicle.

A spokesperson from the Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Division said: “We are following up a positive line of enquiry, but we’re still surprised by the amount of people that leave their car doors open and simply locking them and taking valuables out of sight can prevent some of these crimes.

“If anybody has CCTV or doorbell footage of Friday morning about that time, if they could review it and if they find anything of note, to give us a call on 101 quoting the incident number 0356 of March 17.”

Two days later, police were alerted to car thieves seen stealing a vehicle from Bishopton.

The two incidents are not thought to be linked.

CCTV footage from around 1.20am on Sunday, March 19 is said to show several individuals breaking into a blue Ford Fiesta ST with the licence plate number VX14 UAF on Greenock Road.

Police in the area say they are looking into the matter and request that anybody with any information about the incident get in touch with them via 101.

A spokesperson from the Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Division said that they are aware of a number of thefts of Ford vehicles in the west of Scotland and are advising owners to ensure their vehicles are locked.
