Renfrewshire Carers Centre gets glowing report from inspectors just before big move across town

Renfrewshire Carers Centre (RCC) has received a glowing inspection report following a surprise check-up.

The Paisley-based voluntary organisation - which supports people who care for their loved ones - has been graded as "good" by the Care Inspectorate for its support for people's well-being and care during the pandemic.

RCC is currently based in the Abbey Mill Business Centre but recently announced plans to move into the new charity hub of St James' House.

Inspectors spoke with seven people who used. the service. Some described it as a "lifeline" for them and praised "kind and compassionate staff".

The report said: "People said all staff, including office-based staff, were excellent. They were confident with the staff providing their care and
support.

"People experienced good person-led support that improved their independence and well-being.

"Staff recognised that people were experts in their own care and support and utilised their knowledge to inform their practice."

The watchdog also said measures were in place to prevent the spread of coronavirus and staffing was at a good level to meet people's needs.

"The service had implemented infection control procedures within the office space," added the report.

"The staff team followed social distancing guidance, had created personal workstations within their separate floors and implemented a Covid-19 cleaning schedule.

"We found staffing levels were consistent to meet the needs of the people using the service and people told us that the full staff team had gone above and beyond for them during the Covid-19 pandemic."

The report did state RCC had had an issue with adult support and protection since the last inspection and the management team were asked to update their policies and procedures to be in line with national and local guidance.

Bosses said they were actively seeking adult support and protection training which will develop staff practice.
