Renfrew woman told she's watched too much Sopranos after threatening war with neighbour

A Renfrew woman who threatened her neighbours to a war has been told she’s been watching too much Sopranos.

Disgraced Marie Boyle shouted, “if you want a war, I’ll finish it” to her former neighbour in Leander Crescent in September 2020.

The 45-year-old made the threats to a neighbour and challenged her to a fight when she believed they had painted graffiti that made reference to her.

Fiscal depute Maria Murdoch told Paisley Sheriff Court: “Around 7.50am, the witness was within their home address when they heard shouting and swearing.

“They recognised the voice to be that of the accused’s.

“The accused was shouting, ‘if you think you’re hard come out and get some, come out and look at your car, it’s going to cost you thousands’ and ‘if you want a war, I’ll finish it'.

“The witness went out to look at their vehicle as it couldn’t be seen from the property and the accused challenged her to a fight.

“The police were contacted and when they attended, the accused stated, ‘once you’re finished with their lies, come and see me'.

“Boyle was arrested and taken to Greenock police station where she replied, ‘not guilty’ to caution and charge.”

Defence solicitor Mr Rankin told the court how Boyle has since moved away from Leander Crescent following the incident.

He added: “It’s believed by Ms Boyle that the witness in this case had painted graffiti that was aimed at her.

“Ms Boyle suffers from bi-polar and at the time of this offence she sought medication from her doctor which had some impact on her behaviour.”

Sentencing, Sheriff Eoin McGinty said: “This is appalling behaviour at that time of the morning and I’m sure other neighbours would have been inconvenienced by this shouting and behaviour.

“It does seem you’ve been watching too many Sopranos movies shouting, ‘if you want a war, I’ll finish it.’

“This is not the correct type of thing to do.

“I can deal with this today by imposing a financial penalty.”

Sheriff McGinty imposed a fine of £320 and ordered Boyle, now of Renfrew’s Dunlop Street, to pay this at £30 per month.
