A discount supermarket in Renfrew which sells food for as little as 25p is extending its membership scheme.
The Company Shop, which has featured previously on Glasgow Live, until recently only granted free membership to people working in food and drink manufacturing, the emergency services or the NHS and Social Care.
However, people in receipt of means-tested benefits will also now qualify for the discounts on a variety of surplus foods and household goods.
The Company Shop Group has also temporarily extended membership to many of Scotland’s key workers, including teachers and council staff.
Meanwhile, the discount store will accept best food cards, which are provided to parents to help them to buy healthy food for their family.
Members can purchase food from Waitrose, Tesco, Nestle and others at deeply discounted prices, and in recent weeks a savvy customer spotted a Tesco Chicken Tikka Sauce for just 25p, Gin and Tonic yoghurts for 35p and Percy Pigs for 30p, reports sister title Edinburgh Live.
Sally Wake, Commercial Director at Company Shop Group said: “By extending free membership to people in receipt of welfare support, we will be able to help even more families to stretch their budgets further during these challenging times.
“In light of the pandemic, extending our Company Shop offer to people who would usually benefit from Community Shop is the right thing to do, and we would like to thank our food manufacturing and retail partners for their support in making this happen”.
