Renfrew are closing the gap on a promotion spot after escaping Tileworks Park with all three points.
Despite still waiting for their first win in 16 games, Royal Albert kept the match close with David McKenna’s early strike eventually enough to separate the sides.
New ‘Frew boss Jimmy Quigley was pleased to come away with a win that brought them even closer to fourth spot in Conference B.
But he admits it wasn’t the prettiest of games in Stonehouse, with his team having to show a more combative side to come away with the win.
He told Express Sport: “It wasn’t as close a game as the score line suggests.
“We scored early doors and then proceeded to spurn a bunch of really good chances.
“The pressure was all on us given they’ve not won all season but when we arrived and I saw the state of the park, I just said to the boys lets get the three points by any means necessary.
“One of their players suffered a really nasty injury. He had to be stretchered off and then eventually taken away in an ambulance, which was sad to see.
“There were two significant delays to the game and it’s very tough to keep your concentration in those instances.
“We dug in really well and it was pleasing to show that strength of character and determination.
“We’re on a good run at the moment and for us fourth spot has to be the minimum we’re targeting for a club of our size.
“We’ve won four on the bounce now and hopefully we can carry that momentum forward as we’ve got all the top teams still to play.
“There’s plenty of opportunities to get into the top four and make sure we’re in the Championship at least next season.”
Next up for Renfrew is a tricky derby clash against Johnstone Burgh in the WoSFL League Cup.
Quigley insists he won’t be taking the visiting side lightly as they have enjoyed a great run against the New Western Park club recently.
He said: “Burgh have definitely been a bogey team for us in recent seasons.
“We’ve changed the team in recent meetings in the cup and in pre-season games, and maybe we’ve not given them the respect they deserve.
“A local derby is certainly not a game I want to be losing, so we’ll be giving them the utmost respect and hopefully we can keep our winning run going.”
