Renfrew proved they were the cream of the crop after bowling their way to victory in the Davis Cup.
Hosted at Lochwinnoch Bowling Club last weekend, the competition was taking place for the first time in more than two years due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
Teams from Lochwinnoch, Renfrew, Gourock and Ayrshire all competed, with just short of 100 competitors and spectators involved on the day.
After some close matches, it was John Brown who skippered his Renfrew team to an impressive Davis Cup win to lift the trophy.
John Brine’s Kilbirnie side went on to win the Gold Star final, which saw them pick up the event’s whisky prize.
Lochwinnoch Bowling Club vice-president Vinnie Spalding was delighted to see so many bowlers back on the green, highlighting the importance to their members of being able to play the sport they love after so long spent isolating.
He told Express Sport: “It’s the first time we’ve held the Davis Cup in two years because of coronavirus.
“It was great to see so many people again and see so many meeting up for the first time in so long. For a lot of the older bowlers, getting back to these kind of competitions has been vital in helping them get out of the house.
“It’s been crucial to make sure they’ve not been too isolated and it was a joy to see so many looking so well on Saturday.
“Like many other clubs in Renfrewshire, we’ve been running an internal league this season to cut back on travel.
“We’ve got another four or five weeks left to go of that and that has been brilliant as well to keep everyone going.”
