The man was slashed to the forehead with a bladed weapon causing serious injury and the woman was struck to the face causing severe bruising and swelling. Both were taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital for treatment and then released.

Following the incident both suspects are believed to have run into Robertson Park.

The other man is described as mid 20's, around 5ft 8in tall, of a slim build with short dark hair and was wearing a grey tracksuit top and bottoms and trainers.

Enquires into the incident have captured the two men on CCTV prior to the incident on Hairst Street, where they are seen to have a verbal altercation with an unknown man and woman.

Detective Constable Liam Rodgers of Paisley CID said: “This was a frightening experience for the two people involved and we are keen to trace the men responsible as soon as possible.

“We are aware that the men were involved in a verbal altercation with a couple at a taxi rank prior to the incident on Hairst Street and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen this.

“Likewise, anyone who was on Ferguson Street at the time of the assault and has not yet spoken to police please contact us.

“Finally I would appeal to anyone with any further information or who may recognise the description of the two men to call officers as soon as you can.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 2949 of 5 June.
