Renewed appeal for information on 32nd anniversary of house fire that killed woman and two kids in Kilcock, Co Kildare

Gardai have issued an appeal for information on the 32nd anniversary of a house fire that killed a young woman and two children in Co Kildare.

Barbara Doyle, 20, and her two nieces, Mary Ellen Byrne, 8, and Kerrie Byrne, 3, tragically died after a fire at a home at Church Lane in Kilcock.

Ms Doyle was babysitting for her sister Elizabeth Byrne at the time of the incident which occurred between 3am and 4am on 20 September 1987.

In 2017, gardai upgraded the investigation to a murder probe after new evidence emerged that led them to believe the fire had been started deliberately.

Gardai said they have discovered a number of strands of new evidence which they could not disclose in the event of a prosecution.

In a new video appeal launched today gardai say that they believe that locals in Kilcock and the surrounding areas may have information in relation to the fire.

Anybody with information is asked to contact Leixlip Garda station at 01-6667800 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
