Renewables firm moves into new HQ and launches safety boat

A renewable energy support services firm has moved into a new base in Orkney and launched a safety vessel.

Green Marine 's new headquarters in Stromness's former police station gives the firm 1,639 sq ft in which expand its workforce by five.

It received funding from Royal Bank of Scotland and financial consultant Lombard to support its growth plans including the building and Green Storm, the latest addition to its fleet.

New flights to launch from Aberdeen to Newcastle and Norwich

The firm installs and maintains tidal and wind energy facilities, and Green Storm will primarily ensure the safe transportation of personnel and cargo to offshore installations. It was formed in 2012 and now has more than 20 staff in Scotland and works with more than 35 clients.

Founder and ex-fisherman Jason Schofield said: “Across the world, marine forms an important piece of the energy puzzle and the north east of Scotland acts as a hub of experience for the sector. The funding provided has allowed us to significantly invest in our operations.

“Moving to new offices in the former police station gives us continued access to an experienced talent pool, more space, and, most importantly, allows us to keep our headquarters on Orkney. The purchase of the vessel demonstrates our continued investment in providing clients with first-class services.

“Royal Bank of Scotland and Lombard have been instrumental in helping us realise our ambitions and provided us with continued support throughout our growth.”

Margaret Keenan, RBS relationship manager, said: “Green Marine is at the centre of a growing industry within the Northern Isles and it’s positive to see its growth ambitions come to life with its new premises and vessel purchase.

Orkney, Shetland and Aberdeen most likely to settle their bills on time, according to survey of SMEs

"As the firm continues to grow and support the budding economy of Orkney through job creation and continued investment, we wish the Green Marine team the best of luck for the future.”

Nathan Sikorski, business development director at Lombard, said: “It has been a pleasure to get to know Jason and Green Marine over the years, understand their growth plans, and provide help where possible. Their continued investment in the fleet shows confidence and commitment to this sector, and I look forward to following Green Marine as they embark on their next venture”
