Cincinnati Bengals rookie defender Renell Wren has a tall task in front of him if he’s to break into the rotation along the line in 2019.
But that also means something else — the depth and caliber of the unit means Wren has some incredible mentors as he starts his pro career.
Wren hasn’t shied away from sharing some of the details he’s gleaned already from some of the NFL’s best.
“I talked to Geno Atkins, Carlos Dunlap, and the older veterans and they said, ‘You have the physical tools. It’s the little stuff that’s going to keep you on the field,’” Wren said, according to Dan Hoard of Bengals.com.
Wren is fortunate to learn from guys like Dunlap and Atkins. The Bengals are fortunate to have had the foresight to create the situation too. After all, Wren is a fourth-round pick who checks in at 6’5″ and 318 pounds with presumably his best football in front of him.
In fact, some within the Bengals view him as the rookie with the most upside from the team’s draft class outright.
If that’s the case, Wren landed in one of the best places he could have given the presence of guys like Atkins. The Bengals could be better in the long run for it, too.
