Renee Geyer has died aged 69.
The legendary Australian soul singer, who first found fame in the 1970s, died following complications after undergoing hip surgery.
While she had been having the operation, it had also been discovered that she had inoperable lung cancer.
Confirming her death, her heartbroken family said that she had "died peacefully among friends" and that there was "no pain".
They wrote: "It is with immense sadness that we announce that Renee Geyer has passed away from complications following hip surgery.
"While in hospital, it was discovered that Renee also had inoperable lung cancer.
"She was in no pain and died peacefully among family and friends. Naturally, we are all utterly devastated."
Renee found commercial success with It's A Man's Man's World and went on to enjoy big hits with Heading the the Right Direction and Stares and Whispers.
Internationally respected in the industry, she worked with the likes of Sting, Toni Childs and Chaka Khan.
Her family continued: "Just last month, Renee sang to a full house and was looking forward to another busy year ahead doing what she loved most – performing for her loyal fans around the country.
"Renre lived her life as she performed – on her own terms and to the fullest.
"Beloved and respected, she was a force of nature and a national treasure, and her passing leaves a giant void in the Australian music industry."
