Renault confirm Fernando Alonso will return to F1 team in 2021

Renault have confirmed their two-time world champion Fernando Alonso will return to Formula 1 as Daniel Ricciardo's replacement in 2021.

Alonso, who left F1 at the end of 2018 after a final season with McLaren, won his championship titles with Renault in 2005 and 2006.

The Spaniard, 38, has made no secret of his desire to return to the grid.

He is set to team up with Frenchman Esteban Ocon and replace Ricciardo, who is moving to McLaren at the end of the 2020 season.

"I don't know if he is going to join or not with us but definitely if he could come back here Iâ€'d be very happy," Ocon said last week.
