Hervé Renard announced on Saturday that he was leaving his role as Tunisia coach less than three weeks after taking over the job.

"My adventure ends here," the 57-year-old wrote on social media.

"I would like to thank the Tunisian Football Federation for the opportunity to coach the team at the World Cup."

Sami Trabelsi guided Tunisia through a World Cup qualifying campaign in which they finished top of their group without conceding any goals.

But Trabelsi was dispatched after a poor showing at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco where they were eliminated in the last 16.

Tunisian football chiefs drafted in Sabri Lamouchi who named the squad for the tournament in the United States;, Mexico and Canada.

But he left after the 5-1 defeat in Group B against Sweden in the first game at the World Cup.

Renard fails to stop the rot.

Tunisia lost their second game 4-0 against Japan and the Netherlands beat them 3-1 in their final group match to dispatch them without a win and with the record for most goals conceded in the group stages of a World Cup .

Renard came to prominence during the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations as an assistant coach to the Ghana boss Claude Leroy.

He spent two years as Zambia coach before leaving for Angola in 2011.

Reputation made in Zambia

He returned to Zambia in 2011 and led them to glory at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2012 in Gabon.

Three years later, he repeated the feat with Cote d'Ivoire to become the first coach to take two different sides to the crown at the continent's most prestigious national team tournament.

During the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Renard was in charge of the Saudi Arabia side that beat Argentina 2-1 in the opening game of the group stages.

Saudi Arabia were eliminated after losses to Poland and Mexico while Lionel Messi and his teammates marched on to lift the cup.
