Remondis fire: Watch huge plumes of smoke fill the sky as blaze breaks out at industrial estate

Fire crews are tackling a blaze at a waste management firm in Bedlington.

Plumes of smoke can be seen for miles after a fire broke out at Remondis just before 11am on Wednesday.

Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service sent three crews to the scene who have spent more than three hours fighting the blaze.

It is understood the fire started in a rubbish shed.

Members of the public have been urged to keep their doors and windows closed due to the large plumes of smoke coming from the building.

A Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "We received a call at 10.58am to a fire at Barrington Industrial Estate in Bedlington.

"We have sent three pumps - two from Pegswood and one from West Hartford - to the scene.

"Due to the big plume of smoke, which is non-hazardous, we are urging members of the public in the surrounding area to keep their windows and doors closed.

"We remain at the scene dealing with the incident at this time."
