Remnants of Hurricane Dorian to hit North East as wet and windy week begins

It's going to be a wet and windy week in the North East as the remnants of two hurricanes hit the region.

Hurricane Dorian - which caused devastation in the Bahamas - and Hurricane Gabrielle may have lost most of their power by now but they'll still bring some unpleasant weather to the UK.

It's going to be a very changeable week but there's some light at the end of the tunnel with a warm weekend in sight.

Here's how this week's weather is going to shape up, according to the Met Office.

Monday

It's going to be a fairly miserable day on Monday, with heavy cloud and bursts of rain possible throughout the afternoon.

It should clear up later into the day but it's going to be a drab start.

Tuesday

Forecasters say Tuesday should be a bit better than Monday but still quite grey.

It will clear up later into the day and stay largely dry but expect another overcast morning.

Wednesday

The remnants of Hurricane Dorian will move in from the west and could bring some wet and windy conditions.

But it's expected to pass over the UK quickly and it should be bright and quite warm by the afternoon.

Thursday

On Thursday, the North East will get the remnants of Hurricane Gabrielle which will bring cloud and bursts of rain throughout the day.

It looks like it will clear later into the evening as high pressure starts to move in, bringing warmer and drier conditions.

Friday

We should start to see a real turn in the weather by Friday as a pleasant weekend gets under way.

Temperatures could up to 19 degrees Celsius by Sunday and it should be dry throughout the weekend.

So not a great start to the week but things are going to improve when it matters most.
