On June 22, Texas Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett delivered a scathing reality check to Donald Trump and the MAGA crowd. She did so in an X post that pulls no punches and drips with sarcasm.
While Republicans continue their frenzied campaign against so-called “illegals” crossing the southern border, Crockett decided to point out a few things—namely, the illegal acts that actually threaten democracy, stability, and, yes, the American people.
In a sharply worded tweet, Crockett listed a string of policy disasters and constitutional violations that unfolded under Donald Trump, essentially asking: If we’re talking about illegal activity, maybe we should stop scapegoating desperate immigrants and start talking about what happened in the Oval Office.
According to Crockett, real ‘illegals’ wear red ties

Illegal & expensive Tariff War
Illegal & callous decimation of the federal workforce.
Illegal disappearing of people off of our streets.
Illegal invasion of Iran.
REMIND ME, again… who are the “ILLEGALS?”
Crockett’s reference to the “illegal & expensive tariff war” clearly nods to Trump’s “TACO” tariff threats, and disastrous trade war with China in his first term, which U.S. farmers, manufacturers, and consumers paid for, not China. Billions were shelled out in subsidies to offset the damage Trump inflicted on the American economy with little to no tangible gain.
Her second point—“illegal & callous decimation of the federal workforce”—alludes to Trump’s sustained attacks on civil servants. Whether through loyalty purges, threats of government shutdowns, or staffing agencies with underqualified loyalists, the Trump era hollowed out expertise and morale across critical federal departments.
And then comes the haunting line: “illegal disappearing of people off of our streets.” That’s no metaphor, as ICE conducts raids across the country, flouting due process in many cases.
Her final jab—the “illegal invasion of Iran”—references Trump’s June 2025 airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, a brazen and unauthorized military action that reignited global fears of war.
The strikes, ordered without congressional approval and widely condemned as a violation of international law, marked yet another chapter in Trump’s legacy of impulsive, destabilizing foreign policy.
Critics say the move pushed the U.S. to the brink of open conflict, all while bypassing the very checks meant to prevent such recklessness.
Weaponizing language, GOP-style
Don’t forget the illegal defunding of medical research and the illegal extortion of universities.

Then there are the illegal bribes, both accepted and offered.
By asking, “Remind me, again… who are the ‘ILLEGALS?’” Crockett isn’t just trolling the MAGA base. She’s making the point: The GOP’s invocation of “illegals” to describe migrants fleeing violence and poverty is not only cruel. According to Crockett, it’s deflection. The real lawlessness isn’t at the border. As Crockett points out, it’s in back rooms, behind executive orders, and buried in white-collar decisions that never get punished.
Crockett’s post is a reminder that not all illegality comes in the form Republicans like to demonize. Sometimes it wears a suit, flies private, and crashes democracies instead of gates.
Crockett: Sharp, fast, unafraid
Crockett represents Texas’ 30th congressional district, and she’s not new to a viral moment. A staunch progressive, Crockett has become a favorite of anyone who likes lawmakers unafraid to call out hypocrisy.
She’s made headlines before—often for fearless interrogations in hearings or dressing down MAGA rhetoric in real-time. But her June post might be her clearest thesis yet on the GOP’s weaponization of the word “illegal.”
