Remembrance Sunday 2022 services in Greater Manchester

Armistice Day takes place this weekend, providing a moment to reflect and remember those we have lost in service and show our support to serving and former members of the Armed Forces. and their families. November 11, which is referred to as Remembrance Day, will see a two minute silence held across the country at the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month.

This year, Remembrance Sunday falls on November 13 and services to mark the poignant occasion will take place across Greater Manchester. In the city centre, there will be a parade through the streets before a ceremony is held at the Cenotaph on St Peter's Square.

Towns and villages across the region will also fall silent to remember the fallen on Sunday. Here's our full list of the services taking place across the boroughs in 2022.

Remembrance Sunday events are taking place in Trafford (Liverpool Echo)

Manchester

The annual service of remembrance will take place at the Cenotaph on St Peter's Square on Sunday, November 13. The Remembrance Sunday Parade will set off at 10.25am from John Dalton Street in the city centre on November 13. The Parade will then march down to the Cenotaph.

As it customary, civic dignitaries, servicemen and women, service and ex-service organisations, faith leaders, emergency services and other uniformed organisations will be invited to pay their respects along with members of the public. At 11am a two-minute silence will be held and the start and finish will be marked by the firing of a 105mm gun.

Once the service had finished, the parade will proceed to Central Library for the March Past. The National Anthem will then be played.

After the parade has left St Ann's Square, the crowd control barriers will be removed, and members of the public will be able to place their tributes around the memorial.

Trafford

Civic Remembrance Sunday services in Trafford will be taking place across the borough on Sunday November 13, and the Mayor of Trafford, Councillor Chris Boyes, will attend the Civic Remembrance Services in Sale and Hale.

Altrincham

Garden of Remembrance on Dunham Road, opposite St Margaret's Church. Service starts at 10.55am.

Bowdon

Bowdon Parish Church (St Mary’s), Stamford Road. Service starts at 10am.

Hale

War Memorial, Broomfield Lane/ Ollerbarrow Road. Service starts at 3.15pm. The parade starts at 2.30pm.

Hale Barns

All Saints Parish Church, Hale Road. Service starts at 10am. The service is followed by wreath laying at Hale Barns War Memorial

Sale

Sale War memorial outside the Town Hall. Service begins at 10.50am. The parade leaves from Masonic Hall at 10.30am.

Stretford

The War Memorial on Chester Road. The Service is held at 10.55am and the parade leaves the Metro Club on Moss Road at 10.30am.

Urmston

War Memorial on Davyhulme Roundabout. The Service begins at 10.55am. The parade leaves Urmston Library at 10.25am.

Rochdale

Commemorations will be held on Sunday, 13 November 2022, with a number of services and parades taking place. Representatives from the Navy, Army and Royal Air Force will be joining veterans and civic dignitaries for parades in Rochdale, Heywood, Littleborough, Middleton, Norden, Milnrow, and Wardle. The Rochdale service takes place at the Cenotaph and starts at 10.55am.

Heywood

Memorial Gardens, Church Street. The service starts at 10.45am. The parade sets off from Tower street at 10.30am.

Middleton

Memorial Gardens, Middleton Old Road. The service begins at 10.45am. The parade leaves at 10.25am.

Milnrow

Milnrow Memorial, Newhey Road. The service starts at 10.55am.

Littleborough

War Memorial, Church Street, Railway Street crossroads. The service begins at 10.55am.

Wardle

War Memorial, 106 Wardle Road. The service starts at 3pm.

Oldham

A series of services are taking place across the borough on Sunday to commemorate those who lost their lives in two world wars and more than 70 other conflicts. Held in conjunction with branches of the Royal British Legion, residents, uniformed services and representatives of all organisations.

The service in Oldham will take place at the War Memorial, opposite the Old Town Hall, commencing at 10.50am. All Ex-Service and Civilian organisations will assemble at New Radcliffe Street at 10.20am and proceed to the memorial at 10.30am.

Lees

A service will be held at the War Memorial commencing at 10.30am.

A procession will assemble in Thomas Street at 10.10am prior to proceeding to the War Memorial.

Royton

The service takes place at Royton Park commencing at 10.55am.

Uniformed services are to assemble at rear of Boyes Store, on the car park off Radcliffe Street at 10.40am. The march off will be at 10.50am to the Memorial at Royton Park.

March past Royton Town Hall afterwards.

Dobcross

Dobcross Band Club commences at 10am and finishes at 12 noon. It takes places at Dobcross and Holy Trinity Church on Platt Lane.

Austerlands

A service will be held at Huddersfield Road at junction with Heywood Lane

Waterhead

The service is to be held at Church Street leading to Waterhead Memorial at 10.30am.

Bardsley

The service will take place at Bardsley War Memorial, commencing at 10.30am and finishing at 11.30am.

Failsworth

The parade will assemble at the Failsworth Health Centre at 10.10am and proceed to the War Memorial at 10.30am.

Chadderton

A procession will assemble at the Chadderton Reform Club, Middleton Road at 10am and procced to the War Memorial at 10.40am.

Salford

The parade at Albert Bentley Place, The Crescent will assemble and leave Pendleton Ex-Services Social Club on Langworthy Road, Salford at 9.45am. Parade will assemble at the cenotaph at 10.35am. Service commences at 10.45am.

Swinton

The Cenotaph, Salford Civic Centre, Chorley Road. Parade assembles at Morrisons, Swinton Hall Road at 10.10am. Parade leaves at 10.30am. Service commences at 10.45am.

Eccles

The service will be held at The Cenotaph, Church Street. The parade assembles at the car park at the back of Eccles Town Hall, Church Street at 10.40am. The service commences at 10.50am

Walkden

The service is held at The Cenotaph, Parrfold Park, Walkden Road. The parade assembles at Walkden British Legion, Wilfred Road, at 9.30am. Church service begin at St Paul’s CE, Manchester Road at 10am. The parade will reassemble outside the church at 10.30am and parade to the cenotaph at Parrfold Park, Walkden Road for wreath laying and two minutes silence.

Irlam

The Cenotaph, Princes Park, Liverpool Road. The parade assembles at Irlam Catholic Club, Liverpool Road at 10.20am. The parade will assemble at the cenotaph at 10.40am. Service will start at 10.45am.

Little Hulton

The Church Service takes place at The Cenotaph, St Paul’s Church, Peel Lane at 10.30am followed by wreath laying at the Cenotaph.

Bolton

A Concert of Remembrance, featuring Bolton’s Lancashire Artillery (v) Band, will be held in the Albert Halls at 7pm on Thursday, November 10. Doors will open at 6.15pm with an anticipated finish of 10pm. Tickets are £7.50.

The following day, November 11, the Armistice Day service will be held in Victoria Square and will be led by the Vicar of Bolton. The public are invited to gather at 10.50am for the service, which will include a two-minute silence.

A Remembrance Sunday service will also be held in Victoria Square on November 13 at 10.40am. The Vicar will lead a service that will feature a two-minute silence, live gun fire and a wreath laying ceremony.

Tameside

From 11-13 November, the communities making up Tameside will be again be holding remembrance services and ceremonies. The events below are specific to Sunday, November 13.

Ashton Central

Parade assembles on Market Street at 9am and marches to Ashton Parish Church. After the service at 9.45am, the parade proceeds to Ashton War Memorial for wreath-laying at 10.45am.

Cockbrook

Service in St Gabriel’s Church, Audley Street, at 10.15am followed by wreath-laying at adjacent war memorial at 11am.

Hurst

Service in St John’s Church at 9.30am. Then procession heads to Hurst Cemetery for wreath-laying at the war memorial at 11am.

Park Bridge

Service at the war memorial in the grounds of Park Bridge Institute at 10.45am.

Waterloo

Parade assembles at Canon Burrows School, Oldham Road, at 2.15pm and heads to near-by war memorial for service at 2.30pm.

Audenshaw

Service and wreath-laying in Audenshaw Cemetery at 3pm.

Denton

Parade assembles at Denton Working Men’s Club, Grosvenor Street, at 10am and heads to Victoria Street remembrance garden to lay wreath. Then goes via Denton Town Hall to war memorial in Victoria Park for service of remembrance at 10.45am.

Denton West

Wreath-laying in Thornley Park at 1.30pm.

Haughton Green

Service in St Mary’s Church at 10.30am followed by wreath-laying.

Droylsden

Parade assembles on Church Street at 10am and heads to Droylsden War Memorial for service and wreath-laying at 10.45am.

Dukinfield

Central

Parade leaves Dukinfield Town Hall at 2.30pm for service and wreath-laying at Chapel Hill memorial at 3pm.

Tame Valley

Service hosted by 5th/7th Dukinfield (St John’s) Scouts at Tame Valley War Memorial in Dukinfield Cemetery at 11am.

Hyde

Central

Parade leaves Greenfield Street at 2.10pm proceeding to the town hall for service at 2.30pm followed by wreath-laying at 3pm.

Newton

Parade leaves Rosemount Trinity Methodist Church at 9.45am and heads up Bennett Street to George and Dragon for service and wreath-laying at 10am.

Werneth Low

Parade leaves Lower Higham Visitor Centre, Higham Lane, at 11.45am for service and wreath-laying at Werneth Low war memorial at noon. Vehicular access will be available.

Longdendale - Broadbottom

Parade leaves Broadbottom Community Centre, Lower Market Street, at 10.30am. Act of remembrance at war memorial at 10.45am.

Hollingworth

Service in St Mary’s Church, Market Street, at 10am followed by wreath-laying at Mottram Moor war memorial at 10.50am

Mottram

Service in Mottram Church at 10.30am.

Mossley

Service and wreath-laying at 10.45am at Mossley War Memorial, Mossley Park, followed by parade to the George Lawton Hall.

Stalybridge

Parade leaves Armentieres Square at 10.45am and heads to Trinity Street war memorial for service and wreath-laying at 10.55am.

Stockport

On Remembrance Sunday, The Mayor of Stockport will lead the borough in paying respects at the Civic Act of Remembrance on the steps of Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery. At 11am, there will be a two-minute silence, beginning with the Last Post and ending with the Reveille. Following prayers, hymns and reflections, wreaths will be laid on the steps of the War Memorial.

Bramhall

The procession starts at 10.40am from Holland Road to Bramhall War Memorial.

The service starts at 11am at the War Memorial, then proceeds to St Michael and All Angels Parish Church on St Michaels Avenue, via Bramhall Lane South and Robins Lane.

Bredbury

The service starts at 3pm at the War Memorial, George Lane.

Cheadle

The Parade will assemble at 10.30am at the junction of Massie Street with High Street to proceed down High Street to War Memorial.

The service will be held at the War Memorial at 10.50am.

Cheadle Hulme

9.40am - The parade meets at Beech Road at 9.40am. It will depart to the War Memorial at 9.55am and the service will begin at 10am.

Compstall

Assemble at 10.50am at Compstall War Memorial, St Paul’s Church, Compstall for Remembrance, prayers and laying of wreaths followed by a Remembrance Service at St. Paul’s Church.

Gatley

The service and laying of wreaths will take place at War Memorial, Gatley Green at 10.45am.

Hazel Grove

The parade commences from Hazel Grove train station at 10.30am.

The service and laying of wreaths takes place at the War Memorial, London Road at 10.45am.

Heald Green

There will be a service and the laying of wreaths at Heald Green and Long Lane War Memorial, Wilmslow Road at 12 noon.

Heaton Mersey

The service at St John's Church, St John’s Road starts at 10.45am.

The Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial starts at 11am.

Heaton Moor

The service at St Paul’s Church, St Paul’s Road starts at 10.45am.

The Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial starts at 11am.

Heaton Norris

The parade meets at Grafton Street Park at 10.55am.

The Act of Remembrance in Grafton Street Park starts at 11am.

The service at Christ with All Saints Church, Heaton Norris begins at 11.30am.

High Lane

The Service of Remembrance starts at 10am at St. Thomas's Parish Church.

The Act of Remembrance and laying of wreaths at the War Memorial starts at 11am.

Marple

10.15am - Standard bearers and the public to assemble at the War Memorial in Memorial Park 10.30am - Service and the laying of wreaths at the War Memorial.

Mellor

The service and the laying of wreaths takes place at the War Memorial at 12.15pm.

Reddish

The church Service at St. Mary’s Church takes place at 10.30am.

The service at the War Memorial takes place at 12.50pm. The service proceeds to Willow Grove Cemetery at 1pm.

The service at Cross of Sacrifice takes place at 1.05pm.

Romiley

Assemble at Green Lane next to the Duke of York public house at 2.30pm.

Prayers at Romiley War Memorial and the laying of wreaths take place at 2.45pm.

The parade starts at 2.55pm from Romiley War Memorial to the War Memorial, George Lane, Bredbury. The service starts at 3pm.

Woodford

Service and the laying of wreaths at Christ Church at 10.4am.

Wigan

The Mayor and Deputy Mayor will attend proceedings at Wigan and Leigh respectively. In Wigan, the procession will leave the Town Hall at 10.30am and head to the War Memorial in All Saints' Gardens.

At two-minute silence will be observed at 11am with wreath laying afterwards. A ceremony will then be held in the Parish church.

In Leigh, the parade will assemble at Marsh Gymnasium at 10.15am and proceed at 10.30am to the Cenotaph on Church Street. A service and wreath-laying will take place at the Cenotaph.
