Remembrance Day planned for those who have lost their lives on the River Clyde

A Remembrance Day has been planned for this weekend in tribute to those who have lost their lives on the River Clyde in Glasgow.

The gathering, which takes place this Sunday (June 30), will see mental health campaign groups, support groups and charities join with the families and friends of those who tragically lost their lives to the river.

Glasgow-based suicide prevention group MindtheMen is to take part in this year’s event, which will be held at Glasgow Green in the enclosure to the left of People's Palace.

It is hoped that the event will represent a very special day for all bereaved families, supporters of the group and the 'Think Again' campaign.

Gary Macdonald, who created the free to access support group, said: “The River Clyde Remembrance Day is a fantastic way to remember those who tragically lost their lives to Glasgow’s river while highlighting the various support groups, such as MindtheMen, that exist to help people in need.

“We know that a lot of people, men in particular, aren’t very good at asking for help, but if we get talking early and express how we feel, then there is recovery.”

The event takes place from 12am to 2pm.
