Remembering a beatdown: 2017 UGA vs Tennessee

With all the Florida drama taking place the last two weeks, we almost forgot about our other little brother, the Tennessee Volunteers.

Tennessee was loving this Florida meltdown maybe more than any other fan base for one reason: For a short period of time, the Vols weren’t the laughingstock of the SEC East.

So let’s not let them forget that they are still the same Vols team that has gone 2-14 against the SEC in the last two years.

As for Georgia vs Tennessee, the Dawgs have taken seven of the last nine matchups in the rivalry, and the last two have been by a combined score of 79-12. Ouch.

Let’s skip last season’s 38-12 beatdown because it’s still pretty fresh in our brains and rewind to the 2017 season. Georgia was 4-0 at the time and Tennessee was 3-1, coming off a 17-13 win over UMASS. But Tennessee had a winning record, so of course they were confident. Until Georgia took the field, that is.

Peyton Manning was honored prior to the game, but that was the only good thing to happen for the Vols on September 30, 2017.

Georgia rolled to a 41-0 victory. The Volunteers were shut out for the first time since 1994 and suffered their most one-sided home loss since 1905.

Jake Fromm only completed seven passes, but he totaled three touchdowns (one passing, two rushing). Nick Chubb ran for 109 yards and UGA tallied four rushing touchdowns in Neyland Stadium.

Lorenzo Carter and JR Reed each had a fumble recovery while Reed and Tyrique McGhee added a pick each. Roquan Smith was Georgia’s leading tackler with 11 stops.

Let’s relive the beatdown.
