'Remember the name' - Liverpool fans praise Layton Stewart after goal against Arsenal U23s

Liverpool fans have lauded Layton Stewart after he starred in the Reds' under-23s victory over Arsenal.

Stwart gave the young Reds an early lead in their comprehensive 4-0 win over Arsenal that saw Barry Lewtas' side to within four points of third-placed Manchester United in the Premier League 2 with two games in hand.

After 15 goals in the club's under-18s, Stewart was moved up to the under-23s side recently and opened his account at this level last week against Chelsea before doubling his tally after just 13 minutes against Arsenal.

His performance left many fans excited over the highly-rated 18-year-old.

Stewart's goal was an opportunistic strike as he took advantage of Arsenal right-back Ryan Alebiosu conceding possession inside the box to ruthlessly finish first-time.

The striker then sparked the move for the third goal as he won the ball on the left flank.

Stewart's performance stood out as he chased long balls, ran the channels and put in the hard yards in a display that will have left many fans believing he could fit into Jurgen Klopp's system at Anfield.

With under-23s strikers Paul Glatzel and Joe Hardy both still regaining fitness after injuries, Stewart appears to be making the most of his opportunities.

Lewtas has previously worked with Stewart in the under-18s and under-16s and, speaking last year, hailed the young forward's work ethic.

He said: "He's been with us a long time.

"The journey is a long one, there are plenty of parts he wants to improve but in fairness to him, he’s been attentive, he’s bought in from day one and he’s been listening every day."
