'Remember Gerrard's slip?' - Sheffield United fans still fear Leeds United will catch them even now

There’s a nervous energy growing around South Yorkshire as Sheffield United’s meeting with Ipswich Town looms ever nearer.

The Blades will almost guarantee promotion with victory against the rock-bottom Tractor Boys on Saturday after back-to-back wins over the Easter weekend.

Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United threw away the initiative after a shock 2-1 defeat to Wigan Athletic on Friday, followed by a 2-0 reverse away at Brentford.

Monday’s comprehensive 3-0 win over Hull City has put Sheffield United in the driving seat, with a three-point buffer and a superior goal difference separating them and Yorkshire rivals Leeds United, with two games remaining.

Wilder’s men have won nine of their last 11 home league games and will be roared on by a sold-out crowd at Bramall Lane.

However, Ipswich have little to play for after seeing their relegation confirmed weeks ago. Paul Lambert’s side are beginning to plan for life in League One, with a number of players trying to showcase their talents to secure a long-term future at Portman Road.

Add into the mix Town took a point off the Blades earlier in the season and it’s easy to see why tension is beginning to grow around S2.

Should Wilder’s side fail to take all three points or worse, lose, it would hand Bielsa’s side an unlikely lifeline ahead of their clash with Aston Villa on Sunday.

With a first Premier League appearance since 2007 on the table, it’s fair to say some United fans are beginning to feel the heat on social media.
