Rematch of WT20 final for Australia, India

Australia and India will meet in a Twenty20 for the first time since last year's historic World Cup final.

Their multi-format series will go on the line when the teams clash in the first of three T20s at Metricon Stadium on Thursday night.

Australia took the upper hand by claiming the first two ODIs, but India hit back with victory in the final 50-over contest, before having control of last week's drawn Test.

The home team holds a 6-4 lead and will need to win at least two of the last three games to be assured of clinching the series.

But as they switch to the shortest format of the game, minds will drift back to what was a glorious night for women's sport in March 2020.

Only days before COVID-19 changed life as we know it, 86,174 fans packed into the MCG to see Meg Lanning's Australians crowned T20 champions for the fifth time.

Veteran Harmanpreet Kaur is back to captain India after missing the Test with a thumb injury.

"Every time whenever we get a chance to play against them we always want to do well," she said.

"We will definitely play positive cricket and try to play our best."

Fast bowler Tayla Vlaeminck, who missed last year's World Cup and has endured a number of injury setbacks, is expected to return in a major boost for Australia's pace stocks.

Superstar allrounder Ellyse Perry endured a mix run of form with the ball in the ODIs and India's top-order were able to put big scores on the board in the final two games.
