Rematch was nominated for The Game Awards for the Best Sports/Racing Game category. Pretty much like any dev, they asked their community for votes on Discord. However, knowing the state of the game and the complaints, they felt guilty about asking for votes. For context, here is the Discord announcement.

They got mixed reactions, with some fans clowning on them, while others appreciated the honesty. Lifeisagameweplay on r/Rematch made a post addressing this. They talked about how they should not feel guilty about asking for votes. Here is the entire post for context.
The dev who made the announcement on Discord found the post and decided to comment on it and give context to the situation. They talked about how they are aware of the game’s situation. How things aren’t where they need to be, but they are aware of it. Their goal was to bring something new to the football genre, and Rematch is the answer for it. Here is the entire comment,
Hi, Pya here. I wrote this Discord announcement.
I didn’t necessarily want this to come across as a somber announcement, just an honest look at where things are right now. The team isn’t delusional; we check the state of the game every day just like our players do, and we know Rematch can be a much better experience than it currently is.
We’re genuinely excited to see Rematch nominated in the Best Sports/Racing Games category (our second appearance at The Game Awards!). We value and we’re proud of what we’ve built so far. But we also know there’s still a lot of work ahead, and we hear and understand how players feel about the game.
Though the criticism is sometimes harsh (and I’m not going to pretend it’s easy reading through all of it), it’s clear that players care about Rematch, and we care about it just as much on our side as developers.
Thank you for your concern, reading your post, and through the comments section is genuinely heart-warming and proof that continuing to work on Rematch is the right thing to do, both for you and for us.
In short, yes, Rematch has its issues, but it’s good that the devs are aware of it. Honestly speaking, the core idea behind Rematch is brilliant; it’s just the execution that needs to be better. Rematch being nominated for The Game Awards is a big deal, and we hope that it’ll spark more interest in the game and, as a consequence, more refined mechanics and features down the line.
