Remarkable house in woods has tennis court and lake - but is completely abandoned

A remarkable house nestled in woodland has been found, complete with tennis courts, lakes and a network of tunnels - but it is completely abandoned.

YouTuber Ste G posted a video of the woodland retreat after coming across it between Bingham and Bottesford on the Nottinghamshire Leicestershire border.

Blink and you'll miss it from the busy road - the only distinguishing features that the home exists are a pair of overgrown iron gates.

But the property within the woods is huge, with beautiful gardens featuring an ornamental pond.

Features include a spiral staircase leading from a cellar to an upper level, a tunnel underground and lots of different out-buildings which link with each other.

Ste says during filming a couple of weeks ago: "It's like a fairytale building. How could anyone leave such a beautiful building like this? It's just beyond me."

As for the lake at the bottom of the garden, he says: "That is just awesome. That's amazing."

In the video, below, Ste says he doesn't know what the place used to be and invited comments on his YouTube channel.

One commenter believes it was destroyed by a fire in the 1930s and that it had not been inhabited by humans since.

Please note that exploring abandoned sites can potentially be dangerous and that trespassing, as Ste risked doing, is a civil offence.
