Remains of missing woman Julie Cooper found in remote bush grave

Human remains found in a remote bush grave in Perth's south-east are that of Julie Anne Cooper, who has been missing for several weeks, police say.

Detective Senior Sergeant Manus Walsh said Ms Cooper's remains were discovered near the Albany Highway in Ashendon.

"Forensic staff are currently processing a gravesite in which female remains have been located," he said.

"We believe the remains to be those of Julie Ann Cooper, 55 years of age, from Doubleview."

Ms Cooper had not been seen or heard from since August 17.

A 31-year-old man, who police say knew Ms Cooper, is in police custody and assisting with their inquiries.

Detective Walsh said police first went to the scene yesterday.

"We've been processing it ever since, the forensic examination was commenced this morning," he said.

"The area was subject to investigation and there's a number of locations within that that we've been processing, we're working our way through that with the forensic team."

Detective Walsh said police were now looking for Ms Cooper's silver 2006 Toyota Camry Sedan.

"Anyone with information regarding the vehicle or Julie, contact Crime Stoppers," he said.

He said the car may be in someone else's possession after a "lawful transaction".

"There's been an exchange which has led that vehicle going to someone else, the exact details of which we're still investigating," he said.

It was fitted with the licence plate 1CGT-526, but police believe it has since been changed.
